| Mastana 2006 |
Sunday 12th March, Cambridge Arts Theatre Mastana has always built well on successes of previous years and 2006 was no different, offering a novel range of both modern and more traditional performances. The evening of Sunday 12th March 2006 saw the Cambridge Arts Theatre buzzing with excitement as people streamed in to watch the tenth Mastana, the flagship event of the Cambridge University Hindu Cultural Society. Under the leadership of Ajay Mistry and Udayan Bhattacharya, the Mastana committee produced a show filled with some of Cambridge’s biggest talents, showcasing a wide and diverse range of performances. Over 650 people were once again stunned by the spectacle and grandeur of Mastana, filing into their seats to the sizzling sounds of the Samba Band. Once the house lights went down, the audience were given a unique taste of the Asian arts Cambridge had to offer, from the beauty and passion of Bharatnatyam and Odissi to fusion acts such as flamenco guitars and Bollywood medleys. There was even a cheeky comedy called 'Shaadi Ka Ladoo' that left the audience in fits of laughter. The show proved to have a little something for everyone! The intermission brought with it some tasty snacks, compliments of Bobby's Vegetarian restaurant, and refreshing fruity drinks. It was wrapped up with a raffle and the long-awaited committee dance, which saw the Mastana 2006 committee show the audience what they're really made of! By all accounts, the event was a huge success and the biggest and best yet! Mastana 2006 was a huge success, raising £3,500 for Christie's Cancer Care (Manchester) and The Cambridge Hindu Partnership (CHP). |
