A decade of Mastana
Mastana 2005

Sunday 13th March 2005, Cambridge Arts Theatre

In front of another sell out crowd, Mastana has once again unravelled the great talents of Cambridge. The first time in the Cambridge Arts Theatre the change of venue was certainly spectacular. From classical dance to modern music, martial arts to comedy, Mastana served up the full flavour of Indian culture. This year saw some creative and original acts, like the dance combining traditional Bharat Natyam with the modern beats of Missy Elliott. The show also explored rarer parts of Indian culture, with some carnatic music and some ancient Hindu martial arts. Other highlights were a well written comedy sketch guest starring Dr Bhond, a colourful dance depicting a sunrise on the river Ganges, and a beautiful medley inspired by peace between India and Pakistan. But who can forget the comperes; armed with cheesy pick-up lines, they were an act in themselves! The show ended with this year’s committee showing off their dancing skills.

All in all the show was a great success, and a tribute to the effort of all those who helped with the show. Over the years Mastana has embraced modern life with the Indian heritage, bringing the audience a wide variety of exciting acts. As it grows from one success to another, the show will always belong to the people of Cambridge; the people who make it happen.
