An incredible celebration of culture from the Indian subcontinent, Mastana 2004 was an enchanting evening of dance (including Bhangra, Bollywood, Bharatnatyam, Kathak), music (traditional and popular), comedy, and more. There is always a phenomenal response to requests for involvement in the show, and as a result, we had the most exciting and fresh talent that Cambridge’s finest performers have to offer. The highlights of the show were included a Bengali poem; a comedy featuring Johnny Wilkinson and Sachin Tendulkar on a bus; Fusion; classical singing; and of course, the great food served during the interval!

The people of India and the Indian subcontinent comprise one of the largest and most diverse populations in the world, with a tremendous cultural tradition. It would be near impossible to fully explain, or indeed understand, everything there is to know about it, but Mastana 2004 provided a great insight into this amazing heritage. The show brought together the rich nature of the region and its culture as a large group of people from differing backgrounds work together to create something special and memorable. This element of the event is perhaps best encompassed by the Hindu philosophy of "aneketaa mein ektaa", meaning 'Unity in Diversity.'

The culmination of the 2004 show was the most spectacular Mastana Finale yet- with the explosive Committee dancers strutting their stuff; including the now-legendary X-step.
