For the past eleven years, Mastana has taken Cambridge on a wondrous ride through the hidden depths of Asia, allowing viewers to experience, through performing arts, what truly embodies Asian culture. Since the very first show, held on March 7th, 1997, Mastana has enthralled and captivated audiences, with each subsequent show building on the previous one’s success and raising the bar for arts productions in the East Anglia region!

It is inspiring to step back and reflect on how the show has grown over the past eleven years, in the hands of students! From the show’s humble beginnings in the Old Library of Emmanuel College, over the years it has expanded considerably. Past productions were held at Peterhouse Theater, the Faculty of Music Concert Hall, Guildhall, Cambridge Arts Theater, and for the second year running, at the Corn Exchange! Yet, even as the scale of the show has increased, the core values forming the foundation of the show have remained intact – the embracement of diversity and the appreciation of Asian culture.

Also, each production has one more feature in common: the continuous hard work of the people behind the scenes- the different committee members and performers who have worked tirelessly to produce Mastana successfully every year since 1997.

Yet one cannot reflect on the past eleven years of Mastana without discussing one of the main reasons why the show is held: charity! Every year, proceeds from Mastana have been donated to several worthy causes, encouraging committee members and performers to work even harder to make it the biggest and best Asian cultural arts show in East Anglia!

So join us as we embark on Mastana 2008, maintaining the same core values of the very first show in 1997 but reflecting the changing nature of Asian culture today. Discover the mystery, madness and magic that is MASTANA!
